Swami Nithyananda Is Now Behind Bars

File under: Gurus Doin' Time

Despite all his miraculous healing powers, Swami Nithyananda could not make his cellphone activity invisible to the police:
[The swami was] arrested after the authorities tracked a mobile phone having a Himachal Pradesh sim card to establish [his] location, Superintendent of Police, Solan, Prem Kumar Thakur, said.
Now the game becomes: which of the arrested suspects is going to flip first on the others. This saga has only just begun. Get ready for months more of Nithy, his lies, and those who both like and dislike him on your screens.

"The sleuths seized Rs 3 lakh and $7,000 in cash, three laptops, three video cameras, seven cell phone handsets, five SIM cards and a host of documents from the house in which the four were holed up for over a month."

so this was his spiritual seclusion ?

"Preliminary examination of the laptops, which had wireless Internet facility, indicate that some threat emails were sent out to persons in the US"

yes right after the Vedic Temple in LA closed.

Swami NaughtyAnanda hey ! Are you blissful now ?

hey any conmen out there, rich and easy pickings for ya....

go to india, don an orange robe, grow yer hair and smile arrogantly over the unwashed masses...

and smile knowingly while giving discourses and hey presto....

any difficult questions people throw at ya, say the mind is evil and leave it at the door...

in 6 months you'll be worshipped, you'll be richer then in your wildest dreams and you'll have women throwing themselves at ya...

try it.

Why did he need seven cell phones. Can't he transmit thoughts directly? It should be peanuts for him, given that he can provide Nirvikalpa Samadhi, and raise kundalini (of anyone with 6000 dollars to spare) at will.

What exactly is his crime? Yes, he's a fraud in terms of being a holy person, a fake guru. My question is in terms of actual illegal activity, what did he do?

I agree with you @ 4/22/2010 8:20 AM.. in terms of actual term of legal..what?
Rape? who complaint? which girl did? only dharma said?
criminal activities? like what? everything has been laid in front dozens of reporters as evidence..
and more?? what are the charges?
whats wrong with a person having cash, laptops and phones with him along? any crimes on thats?
So whats up with spiritual seclusion? is there any rule saying that someone choose this decision cant touch laptops and phones or publish discourses?? ohh plss... spiritual seclusion is nothing to do with any of this.. Its more to seeking inwards..anyone can choose this way...either you or myself.. either a celibate or a household man. Its more of realisizing your spiritual inwardly!! Im sure you will understand or rather choose not to understand it!
I dont care of you people that will labell me of any kinds after reading this post or rather after successfully got approved and posted here. You guys are just vomitting our anger or rather disappointments because He just didnt fit into your frame of expectations...

You are right, reethisa.

I am waiting for my iPads and iPhones (4.0 with multitasking) to arrive this fall, so i can finally go into spiritual seclusion with them.

Technology-aided Nirvikalpa Samadhi (sponsored by Apple Inc.). Seats are limited. Hurry.

Did Bangalore Sex Swami stage-manage his arrest?

http://www.ndtv.com/news/cities/did-bangalore-sex-swami-stage-manage-his-arrest-20610.php

While police bask in media glare following the arrest of sex swami Nithyananda, insiders in the godman's camp claim the disgraced guru engineered the arrest on advice of his trusted followers.

"Nithyananda was not hiding from the police or the law, it was the public he feared. He has always been reasonably certain that the charges leveled against him are unlikely to stick in court. Now that the public anger has subsided somewhat, the swami tipped the cops. He expects to be granted bail in court," explained a source close to the Swami.

You are absolutely right reethisa. Everyone who doesnot know hi is just spewing any vomit they can without verifying the facts. Only the devotees who have experienced his teachings know how much he has helped them transform.

'What exactly is his crime? Yes, he's a fraud in terms of being a holy person, a fake guru. My question is in terms of actual illegal activity, what did he do?'

Well, for a start he took money for services under false pretences and he has profoundly misrepresented himself in order to profit massively by that misrepresentation. I am sure that the Indian penal code has those illegalities covered.
More to the point, however, is the profound betrayal he has perpetrated on his followers--not something that can be prosecuted perhaps but potentially far more devastating in terms of human misery and damage than the simple monetary fraud.

I get that Ellen. I was just asking what he's done that he can be prosecuted for. If posing as spiritually superior to others and collecting money for it was a legal crime most of the preachers in the super rich mega churches in the USA would be under arrest as well as the televangelists but they have to do something wrong that actually breaks a penal code.

He made them sign NDA's before having sex. Amazing!

His crime is fraud. Claiming to be a celibate swami, and raising millions of dollars on false premise.

@Ellen

Some states have laws for charity fraud, to prevent people from using charitable donations for themselves.

However, authorities are reluctant to prosecute religious charities, as it does fall in a legal grey area.

A clever attorney could make a class action lawsuit out of it and recover the money back for the people who donated to this fraudulent person.

Nithy foundation is rudderless - better to sell off everything, and give the money back to the donors (if they have records that is!). They might just settle out of court!

.....
but they have to do something wrong that actually breaks a penal code.

In addition, taking money/donations that are tax-exempt and using them for personal purposes. He can be charged for that.

I am really surprised that Gopal Sheelam is still a part of all this ... emailing threats to people in the US etc. What will it take for him and his family to walk out.

If inflicting emotional misery on others is a crime, all the rich should be behind bars. Their opulent lifestyle is a source of misery for rest of us.

There is so much desperate effort to demonize him that I am totally convinced now there is no case against him.

To start with, I always wondered what illegality has he committed? I am yet to get any answer till now.

Some people are saying he can be charged with this and that as an afterthought, what do you mean he can be charged, the case against him should be water tight, but there is none.

Somebody please enlighten me, without making a desperate effort.
