Straight-Up Pimpin' Swami Nithy

File under: Gurus Doin' Time and Hands Where They Don't Belong

Our turban has now been placed at the feet of the recently-arrested Swami Nithyananda. The man was clearly a superstar womanizer, a veritable Himalaya of seduction as an "enlightened master" employing his "powers" as a lure for the pretty, curvy things he was desiring to ravish.

One might ask the question, why didn't we hear about this sooner? One possible answer: this sex god had each of his conquests sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), one that pretty much covers all the bases:
One clause of the agreement, accessed by TOI, states: “Volunteer understands that the Program may involve the learning and practice of ancient tantric secrets associated with male and female ecstasy, including the use of sexual energy for increased intimacy/spiritual connection, pleasure, harmony and freedom. Volunteer understands that these activities could be physically and mentally challenging, and may involve nudity, access to visual images, graphic visual depictions, and descriptions of nudity and sexual activity, close physical proximity and intimacy, verbal and written descriptions and audio sounds of a sexually oriented, and erotic nature, etc."

It further says: "By reading and signing this addendum, Volunteer irrevocably acknowledges that he/she is voluntarily giving his unconditional acceptance of such activities and discharges the Leader and the Foundation, and anyone else not specifically mentioned here but directly or indirectly involved in the organization, management or conduct of any such programs from any liability, direct or indirect, arising from such activities."
Swami Nithyananda was clearly getting his fill of guru groupie love, and as someone who knows no such thing, we must salute him. But we remain staunchly opposed to the idea that nondual understanding renders one a God rather than just a person who can see clearly that they are not one bit different in essence from anyone else on this planet. Nithy used the idea he was more God than you to fleece and to f**k. Now, he's paying for it with quadruple-interest and his own exposed receiving end.

Jody, you may not get your turban back.

And if you do, be sure to send it to the forensic lab to check for various stains etc. No telling what sacred ancient tantric sex ritual it was a part of.

I just caught a glimpse of Nityananda on TV being whisked away in a police car. . . I don't speak Hindi so I couldn't understand the news. I've been trying to follow this story, and I'm amazed that people very often can't see through the fog of their sentamentality and lay their lives at the feet of bogus gurus. It's a case of the cheaters and the cheated. Some people need to be cheated I guess. At least coming to your site I can feel some satisfaction that someone is talking about it and giving it the criticism that it's due.

Other sex exploiters would now require victims to sign similar agreements from now on! lol

Therapists and priests would all require such non-disclosure agreement for sexual experiments to help the their patients or parishioners with healing or divine estasy!

Has it ever occurred to you people to apply your much-vaunted skepticism to the media sources of your "information" as well as to the people you skewer?

You have NO way of knowing that that contract is authentic. Common sense would tell you that investigators would not release details like this while the investigation is still ongoing and the trial hasn't begun yet. All I've been able to observe from the whole episode is that the sensationalist press in India makes ours (in the US) look like model boy scouts.

I guess I just want to say that while we should certainly rise above the "fog of sentimentality for bogus gurus", we should also strive to see through the fog of hearsay, lest we become unwitting revelers in this trial by media, laying our commonsense at the feet of its faceless judge.

@a.y.c Because even his big researcher defender, Rajiv Malhotra, said so. Get a clue here: "My sense is that he did practice Tantra with a very small number of persons, and I believe that he even entered into written legal contracts with them to make sure that both parties were clear about the arrangement. The reason for this “Non-Disclosure Agreement” was to make sure that someone who willingly approaches him for Tantra does not later accuse him of inappropriate physical contact."

And of course this shows that the sex was not really consensual. He is a fake Guru, because if he was real, he would have been upfront about all this right from the beginning. Every word of hi is a lie. He said he would withdraw from the organization to lead a life of withdrawal and quietude, just to escape from police investigation and issue one Youtube video after the other, blaming his devotees for everything. Did you hear how he was threatening all of his disciples, that if they will leave him now, they would never find a real Guru in this life? Did you hear this? How would you call such threats? Withdrawal from the Ashram? This is directly out of his mouth and not made up by the press. And then he is stupid enough to use a number of cell phones, to manage his Ashrams and gets caught. What an idiot, what a liar. He was never real, when I saw his oversized portraits at Thiru housewalls, that was clear anyway.

"he was beaming discourses from his house at Mamlik village since March 29. Interrogation of his four arrested disciples, including a software professional and an MBA, revealed that they had converted the living room into a studio. "

"A wi-fi portable computer network and a portable power back-up unit accompanied the swami and his entourage while on the run from Bangalore to Haridwar, Delhi and finally Himachal before the dramatic arrest. Besides three laptops, video cameras and mobile phones, the swami was using several other high-tech contraptions. The police has sent 12 suitcases containing the self-styled godman’s personal belongings and weighing 367 kg to Bangalore. "

“On an average, he made international calls of 45-60 minutes every day to US, New Zealand, Canada, South-East Asia and England using satellite recharging facility,” said a senior police official. The police also has records of several foreign remittances and withdrawals running into lakhs made through American Express ATM "

Nithyananda, who is the sole owner of the 22-acre land in Bidadi, violated Sections 79A and B of the Karnataka Land Reforms Act, 1961 which states that "no person other than a person cultivating land personally shall be entitled to hold land."

"The godman's plan included building a health club, an ayurvedic spa, a department store and pharmacy, a recreation centre, a library, an open-air amphitheatre, laundro-mats, landscape garden, a swimming pool and a creek and lake 'flowing through the contours of the ashram'.

"He had not taken permission from the Ramanagara Deputy Commissioner to build these facilities."

"What makes the violations serious is that the land over which the ashram is built is solely in the name of Nithyananda and not registered under Dhyana Peeta Charitable Trust. The land donors have slapped a legal notice on Nithyananda, demanding its return."

While it's pretty obvious that Nityananda was having a physical relationship with women in his ashram, this latest thing about the NDA raises one question. Why would the ashram, or Nithyananda, put down ANYTHING in writing about having sex. Thats tantamound to accepting that yes, sexual activities are being conducted within the ashram. That in itself is enough to destroy the reputation of Nithynanda, as is happening now. I am sure he, or anybody drafting that NDA, would realise this point. Once its been established that sex is part of the game, details, which the NDA purportedly seeks to hide, are irrlevant. This is not a defense for Nithyananda, however, it is very obvious to even a casual observer that the expose is more than just the work of one disgruntled person...much stronger, most probably political, forces are at work here. This NDA thing seems like a "last nail in the coffin" attempt and I think its very possibly planted evidence by the security agencies. Anybody feeling surprised by that statement is just being compeletly naive about Indian law enforcement agencies. Nithyananda probably took on some heavy weight politico, and since he has dirty laundry (I mean the sexcapades), he paid the ultimate price. Fairly common story...if you want to rule your part of the jungle, you gotta pay the lion its share. I think Nithyananda thought he was the lion.

Why did Rajiv Malhotra mention these NDAs BEFORE they came up in the press or in police reports? Being an insider and defender, he probably knew about it. If this was implanted by security, that would make him part of the plot.

Bangalore April 24 DH News Service

Self-styled godman Nithyananda is likely to be interrogated by the Enforcement Directorate and booked under Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

CID sleuths interrogating Nithyananda at their Bangalore headquarters are almost convinced that Nithyananda is involved in a series of money deals abroad.

His foreign donations, investments and assets are sure to come under the scanner.
“We are aware that none of the cases Nithyananda is facing is going to hold water, but he is sure to be grilled and cornered under the Money Laundering Act. So, we will apprise the Government and seek ED’s interference," said a senior officer.

Director General (CID) Guruprasad quizzed Nithyananda for more than two hours. Nithyananda was rolling the rudrakshi beads and answering the questions. For the last two days, he did not co-operate with the police.

Later, a marathon review meeting was held and the officers involved in the investigations presented their updated papers.

At the time of his arrest in Himachal Pradesh, Nithyananda was carrying $7,000 and during interrogation he failed to give a convincing answer and reveal the source.

It is clear that the godman has not taken any sanctions from the Government of India.
On Monday, Nithyananda will be produced before the court and, if need be, the cops will request for an extension of his police custody.

When it came to the ashram finances, many transactions were in Nityananda’s name.

One such was the handling of non-resident bank accounts in Los Angeles where the swami had a sizeable number of followers. When his devotees wanted to contribute money, Nityananda used to raise invoices and receive payment in dollars as service charges.

The money would be deposited in his personal bank account in Los Angeles. He would transfer this money to India, saying they were donations and claimed tax exemption for these large sums of money.

CID sources said Nityananda had not informed the tax authorities about collecting these service charges from NRIs in the US, in which case it would become a business deal. The entire transaction had to go through the Union finance ministry but he didn’t ensure this.

‘‘The transaction is worth millions of rupees and sleuths are checking if he had many more such transactions in any other country or other parts of the US,’’ a source said. The breakthrough came when CID sleuths raided the Bidadi ashram a week ago and seized computers and laptops. Though some ashram transactions were deleted from the hard disk, account details were still there.

(looks like the Indian authorities are going to investigate and charge him with financial crimes)

When the swami was arrested from a summer house in Himachal Pradesh, the CID sleuths recovered $8,000 from him. “The possession of this kind of foreign currency is a violation (a person can keep a maximum of $2,000),” said the CID sources.

The swamiji has received donations from abroad and built ashrams in several countries without permission from the appropriate authorities, sources said.

The information on the swami’s laptop and the documents he was carrying showed he owned several properties abroad. They have received donations from abroad without following rules prescribed by the Union home ministry and RBI, said the CID sleuths. “It looks like ED sleuths can book a case under the Money Laundering Act,” they said.

(Indian authorities are still looking for another one of the Swami's men)

While the state CID did nab Swami Nithyananda from a village in Solan district, last Wednesday, but efforts to track down his close associate Shailesh Tiwari, who is still believed to hiding in the state have failed to make headway.

Sources in Himachal CID disclosed that that the Karnataka police have sought assistance in arresting Tiwari as they believe he was still hiding somewhere in the state.

Laying hands on Tiwari was important because he is said to be privy to all the financial dealings of the organisation, said the CID officer.

When the infamous Swami was arrested at Mamlik village in Arki on 21st April, the police had stumbled upon US $ 7000 and the Karnataka police is considering making out a case under FEMA for holding so much foreign currency without obtaining permissions to do so.

With cases of sexual impropriety registered against the Swami not likely to be considered a transgression of law, Karnataka police were looking to book him on the money trail.

US agency seeks info on Nithyananda case progress
MK Madhusoodan / DNAMonday, April 26, 2010 10:28 IST Email

Bangalore: Even as the criminal investigation department continued to interrogate the tainted swami, Paramahamsa Nithyananda, a US security agency made “casual” enquiries on the progress of the case.

The US agency, it was learnt, showed interest on getting information related to a complaint filed against the swami in that country. It was also interested in knowing the flow of funds from Nithyananda’s ashram, Dhyanapeetham, in Bidadi, about 35km from Bangalore, according to CID sources.

Douglas McKeller of San Jose, US, had accused Nithyananda of sexually exploiting his devotees, fraud and financial irregularities.

It was suspected that the swami had routed funds to the now-extinct militant organisation, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, of Sri Lanka. Sources indicated that they would be looking into the self-styled godman’s international connections as well as financial transactions.

The CID would be writing to the central enforcement directorate (customs) to charge cases against Nithyananda under the provisions ofForeign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and Foreign Exchange Regulatory Act (FERA). “We are not authorised to file cases under FEMA and FERA. So we have decided to write to the directorate of enforcement,” a CID officer said.

The CID had found that Nithyananda and his brother Nityeshwarananda were holding joint accounts in Canara Bank's Ramanagara branch, besides several others in Corporation Bank. The accounts revealed that the duo had received money from foreign countries.

Meanwhile, the director-general of police (CID) BV Guruprasad and DIG Charan Reddy quizzed Nithyananda on Sunday afternoon. The swami was cooperating with the investigation.

Nithyananda underwent medical examination on Sunday morning at the CID headquarters here. The interrogation started around 10 am. The arrested swami had lunch, brought from the Bidadi ashram, around 1.45 pm.

The CID would produce him before the Ramanagara chief judicial magistrate on Monday, to seek a four days’ extension of his police remand.

Nithyananda would also be taken to his Bidadi ashram to collect evidence. Sources in the CID said the swami would be travelling under tight security.

Nityananda was taken to the government-run Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology and was admitted in the ICU, the sources said adding, his condition was stable.

"His condition is being monitored. The doctors will decide the future course of action tomorrow morning," the sources said.

Earlier in the day, Nityananda was produced before a court at Ramanagaram, about 40 kms from here, which extended his police custody by two more days.

Nityananda's close aide Nitya Bhaktananda alias Seelam Reddy, who was also produced in court, was remanded to 14 days' judicial custody.

Bangalore April 27: In what appears to be a means to avoid interrogation, arrested self-styled godman Nithyananda on Monday was admitted to hospital near here moments after he was remanded to police custody for two additional days.

According to Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology director C N Manjunath, following tests on Nithyananda, it was found that all the parameters were normal. Apart from blood, tests, Nithyananda underwent ECG and ecocardiogram checks.

Police sources suspect Nithyananda is “feigning” chest pain “for he thinks this was one way to squirm out of the interrogation” which is taking place at the CID headquarters here. For the first two days, he told his interrogators that he did not remember anything relating to the sex video.

New York: Disgraced self-styled godman Swami Nityananda violated the rules of tantra by "using so many people for one's pleasure", Art of Living Foundation head Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said Monday.

A Foundation statement quoted him as saying in Cincinnati in the US that Swami Nityananda, now in custody, "has violated UNAIDS guidelines as well as the rules of tantra.”

"Only a house holder is entitled for tantric sex. Claiming to be a monk and using so many people for one's pleasure is unpardonable," Ravi Shankar said.

"He should have had one partner and announced himself as a tantric guru. It has caused damage to the faith of people in the institution and traumatised many."

CID sleuths reveal that Swami Nithyananda would routinely smuggle 24 carat gold from the US

There seems to be no end to the number of crimes that sex swami Nithyananda is believed to be involved in.

The CID sleuths revealed that the 33-year-old Swami Nithyananda used to smuggle 24 carat gold weighing several kilograms from the US.

According to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Swami Nithyananda used visit the US quite often. During his visits, he used to carry objects that looked like gold.

Soon after reaching there, he used to (have models made of objects to be cast) of pure 24 carat gold and brought to India.

"He usually got things made in form of rosaries and sandals that he used to wear while returning to India," reads a DRI letter that was sent to the Bangalore airport authorities, a copy of which is in possession of MiD DAY.

The letter also mentions that Swami Nithyananda misused his image of a spiritual guru to smuggle gold.

According to the officials, the swami believed that he'd be never caught, as the custom officials never bothered to check him when he used to go on spiritual trips.

DRI officials had also issued a look out circular to all the airports soon after sex swami went into hiding.

The DRI sleuths suspect that Nityananda could have used the same technique for smuggling precious stones as well.

Besides, the officials suspect that Ma Nithyananda Gopika, sex swami's personal assistant, helped him in the smuggling racket.

(Swami got the idea to go to the hospital from his lawyer but it didn't work, the lawyer had another recent client use the trick twice to stay in the hospital until he made bail)

Swami Nithyananda was not as lucky as KGF legislator Y Sampangi in securing bail. While the politician ‘graduated’ from hospital bed to bail, the swami, who was admitted to Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology after he complained of chest pain, was sent back to jail after his condition was described as normal.

With this, the swami’s hopes of remaining in the hospital till he can get bail in the case being probed against him, have been dashed. Now, he’s back at the CID headquarters’ basement lock-up.

If the court rejects his bail petition on Wednesday, he could even end up in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.

Incidentally, Chandramouli is the advocate for both the swami as well as Sampangi.

The swami’s chest complaint comes under dramatic circumstances. When he was produced before a magistrate in Ramanagaram, the CID sleuths were granted two more day’s time to keep him in custody. Later, the swami sought court’s permission to speak to his advocate H S Chandramouli in private.

After his discussions with Chandramouli the swami complained of chest pain. Not taking any chances, the sleuths rushed him the Jayadeva hospital.

(We'll see what happens soon enough, it's Wednesday morning already in India)

According to CID sleuths, the tainted spiritual leader of Nithyananda Dhyanapeetham at Bidadi sounded worried over the assets he had made.

The godman reportedly lamented the loss of disciples and the bad publicity.

The CID officers expressed doubt that the godman was as big as being projected in the media. “He is a small fry compared to others. There are bigger sharks doing the same, but have been so far undetected,” an officer said.

The Nithyananda episode has had an effect on the CID officers. “In fact, we should have complained of chest pain instead of the swami. We are totally stressed out,” another officer said.

(2 more days in the pokey ! And he might be moved to Puducherry where charges have been filed)

Despite coming up with a range of theatrics, from feigning illness and periodically slipping into meditation, self-proclaimed godman Nithyananda was remanded to two more days of police custody by a Ramanagara court near here on Wednesday.

The CID has reportedly been able to locate Tamil actress Ranjitha, with whom Nithyananda was shown in secretly recorded videos having sex with, somewhere in Thiruvananthapuram.

It is learnt that while in hiding, Nithyananda made 174 calls to Ranjitha. Sources, however, said they would examine her as a witness.

Although subjected to rigorous interrogation during the last six days, Nithyananda has part resisted and part cooperated with CID sleuths. He has named most of the women ashramites who attended to him in his private quarters and who had access to his room at the Bidadi ashram.

But the CID sleuths have investigated other aspects of his activities and is closely following up on the non-disclosure agreements two of his close devotees signed with several ashramites for indulging in tantric sex & watching pornography.

(Aha! Nithyananda Imports & Exports !)

Chandan Nandy, Bangalore, April 28, DHNS:

The State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) sleuths have stumbled upon a personal bank account of self-styled godman Nithyananda with a leading private sector bank in Bangalore in which he has a whopping total deposit of around Rs 32 crore.

The bank has frozen the account at the behest of the CID which is looking into all the financial transactions –– accounted as well as unaccounted –– of the godman who is now under police custody for interrogation.

At least three other bank accounts where two trusts run by Nithyananda maintain a deposit of around Rs 20-25 crore have already been frozen. The CID is analysing these accounts and the sources of the funds. Efforts are also on to trace whether money from these accounts has been transferred to undisclosed banks abroad.

Nithyananda’s unaccounted money in his personal account is different from the deposits that are in the name of two trusts, Dhyana Peeta Charitable Trust (DPCT), which was registered in 2003, and Nithyananda Dhyanapeeetam Trust (NDT), registered in 2005.

Police sources believe that money was diverted from donations to Nithyananda’s personal account where profits of a company by the name of Nithyananda Imports and Exports, run by his brother Nithyeshwara, alias Gopinath, were also deposited.

"The CID is in the process of getting hold of the details of the investment funds as well as obtaining information that in 2008 Nithyananda had plans to outright buy a private island either off the coast of Canada or Indonesia.

His global secretary Sachitananda was tasked with the job of contacting a Germany-based Turkish broker in islands. The money set aside for the island purchase was US$ 5 million."

I happened to ask him (not really thinking about this mess with swami nithyananda) about what was going on with the sadhus in India since he had come directly from Haridwar. He told me all of this "gossip" about the gurus was wrong. They were all innocent. Nothing was going on and just someone was after the land that Nithynanda's ashram is built on. It amazed me. This priest is a very kind man, very honorable and open-hearted, yet he is completely blind to the corruption wihin the "spiritual structure".
Would you say this is the usual attitude?

Yeah, I remember the same thing from siddha yoga...don't gossip; don't dwell on the negative; "let the dogs bark" etc. etc.
funny how "the teachings" can be used as blinders, isn't it? Luckily, this person is not my "spiritual director", just a friend. I feel sorry for his need to divide reality into pure and impure; negative and positive but I guess that's just where he is. Can't bury the shadow side or it will come up and bite you on the butt (even if you're a priest).
