Maharishi Haunted In His Grave By The Beatles

File under: Satscams and The Siddhi of PR

From the last media interview given by the Maharishi in his world-domination lair in Holland, 2006:
My one small victory was that I managed to ask him - ever so politely - about The Beatles.

Given all the bad blood, did he regret his involvement with the band who made him a household name?

Suddenly, all that serenity evaporated and the mystic came over all mortal.

"Forget about it!" he spluttered furiously.

"If at all, (The) Beatles became substantial by my contact.

"I did not become great by association of The Beatles! Beatles make Maharishi great? Pah! It is a waste of thought."
Heh heh. Searching Yahoo News photos with the term "spiritual guru" turned up only this:

Unfortunately, there are still monstrosities of grandiosity roaming the street, taking people's money for a little sand on the beach by putting spiritual truth on the corner like a crackhead hooker:

Despite their estrangement, the student has learned very well from his master. We hereby proclaim Sri Sri Ravi Shankar the most grandiose big-time guru (Da is working a humble artist persona at the moment) on the entire planet. Huzzah!

The message I get while reading this blog is :-

(1) Long dead Gurus are ok.Living & recently dead are not.

(2)If the living or recently dead are ok,then they have to be obscure, poor beggars, giving money to whom satisfies one's ego.

(3) Yoga may be big in the West but it is still not considered mainstream & hence is susceptible to mean comments from every loony Tom,Dick,Harry & Jody who think they are experts in Yoga.

(4) Hindus need to be more organised, aggressive & evangelical as the West has always understood & respected aggressive & evangelical philosophies-it is a 2000 year old Sanskara of the West which won't go away so easily.

Gurus who make it about the teaching rather than themselves are ok, gurus who shine the spotlight on themselves are not.

They just need to see that making themselves special works against their mission, or at least present themselves in a way that doesn't rely on superstitious notions of the powers of the guru.

Yoga may be big in the West but it is still not considered mainstream & hence is susceptible to mean comments from every loony Tom,Dick,Harry & Jody who think they are experts in Yoga.

Actually, yoga is mainstream where I live. It's not yoga I have a problem with, it's gurus making themselves up to be special and magical as a way to attract new clientele.

Hindus need to be more organised, aggressive & evangelical as the West has always understood & respected aggressive & evangelical philosophies-it is a 2000 year old Sanskara of the West which won't go away so easily.

I love Hinduism. It's superstition in Hinduism that I abhor.

I mean to make clear the truth that enlightenment or realization doesn't make you any different than anybody else, and those gurus who present themselves as different do their devotees more disservice than not.

The Maharishi is a primary example of guruing having gone to his head. To be honest, he did accomplish a lot. To bad it's all based on a loony fantasy.

Hindus don't have to do anything in the States. It's generally regarded as a friendly religion by the blue states, and even much of the red seem to be ok with it. It's just the hardcore fringe that would be against it. Kind of like the Hinduvta in India, I imagine.
