Prem Rawat Games For More Fame

File under: Gurubusting, Satscams and The Siddhi of PR

Just as we were beginning to formulate our response to this article, resourceful reader Alex beats us to the punch and does our work (quite well) for us, so we're just passing his fine product along:
Once again our boy Prem Rawat (aka Maharaji, Guru Maharaj Ji, Lord of the Universe, etc.) hoists himself onto a pedestal - and promptly falls over.

This time he tries to associate himself to Gandhi by instructing key followers of his to attend, under cover, a gala dinner held last night in London to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the film of the same name.

The aim of these key followers is to be ambassadors as, to quote a leading cult honcho Roland Klepzig:
"This is a unique event because it will be attended by a VIP audience of diplomats, politicians, celebrities and very influential and wealthy business people who will be exposed to [Maharaji's] message for the first time."
The cost per person for this gala dinner is a cool £250 (US$500).  In addition, Prem Rawat's so-called foundation, The Prem Rawat Foundation, will be making a contribution of £10,000 (US$20,000) which gave him the right to address the great and good prior to the dinner.

Unfortunately for Prem Rawat, this legitimacy-enhancing campaign is a step too far, resulting in the mainstream media picking the story up on Friday.

This exposé, according to former followers of Prem, will no doubt have caused much anger over at Cult HQ and in particular by the great man himself.  To quote him in a previous context:
"The chances are you've never seen the other side of me. You've seen the event side of me when I'm on stage. But there is another side of me. If you evoke that side, you won't like it. It's a nasty side. You don't want to see that side. You're not missing anything by not seeing it." - Prem Rawat, Arundel England, 23rd July 1999."
Jim Jones - take two?
I doubt that middle age will mellow Prem Rawat - he is 50 in a few days time; most people remember him as a spotty teenager addicted to ice cream and Star Trek shows with a predilection for throwing tantrums if he did not get what he wanted.

By the way, some additional information on the Prem Rawat Foundation. If you would reasonably think that this foundation, in common with other personal foundations, receives money from Prem Rawat as a gift for onward humanitarian spending, then you would be wrong. In fact, Prem's foundation receives nothing from Prem himself, rather its income derives from the sale, for example, of Prem Rawat DVDs to foot kissing devotees. Additionally out of a total income of US$8.2 million for the 5 years ending 2006, only 12.3% was actually given over for humanitarian initiatives. [Ed.note: Prem may not give anything to his org, but he sure likes takes from it, to the tune of $60 million dollars for a new Gulfstream GP-SP private jet, and all when he had a perfectly good Gulfstream V beforehand.]

Just in! The guests at last night's London gala dinner received a goodie bag from the Prem Rawat Foundation. Contents? Basmati rice, a DVD of the film Gandhi, some non-alcoholic champagne and a TPRF booklet.  This is in addition to the cult commissioned book "Peace is Possible".
We liked this weak defense from a Rawat lieutenant when confronted with this group's status as a destructive cult:
James Shaw, a spokesman for Elan Vital, pointed out his organisation had received charitable status and was governed by Charity Commission laws. “The fact is we are not a cult and we do not behave in cult-like ways,” he said.
Sure, Jim. Tell that to these folk.

The turban is now off in appreciation and admiration for reader Alex and this fine work.

Aw Jeez. It's hardly a week since my 30th high school reunion made me feel ancient, and the last thing I need to hear is:

I doubt that middle age will mellow Prem Rawat - he is 50 in a few days time

I so vividly remember when I was in middle school, and a friend's sister became a devotee of his, to the horror of parents. Prem Rawat was then "Guru Maharaj Ji," and his main gimmick was that, unlike those other stodgy gurus, he was still a kid!

The posters and pamphlets advertised him as "The 15-Year-Old Perfect Master," and curiously, the motto didn't change for several years.

When Rawat gets nostalgic, I wonder what he feels when he remembers that in the 70s, he had his devotees sing:

Maharaj Ji, Maharaj Ji
Satguru, Satguru
You're a Perfect Master
You're a Perfect Master
We love you, we love you.

I kind of hope that he's a little embarassed, at least as much as I am when I remember wearing a leisure suit.

Update on Prem Rawat's fame game.

My mole informs me that Prem Rawat never even bothered to turn up at the Gala Dinner. Now I wonder why? Surely not that the attendees were alerted to his scamming?

Much disappointment all round for those cult-heads that coughed up £250 for the off chance they will have a peek at their Lord and Master. Of course they would have preferred to kiss his foot, as they normally do at the Amaroo cult compound in Australia, but I guess even they would realize doing such a thing in public would be viewed as cult like.

I have been watchin prem rawat for some time now. I cannot find any fault with him at all. His message is FREE as well as his keys process - which is amazing as usually there would be some fee for such a course. There is no ego in what he says and I have only found goodness and simplicity. He just repeats the same thing in many different ways - "the peace you are looking for is within you". So simple. Maybe since you keep concentrating and trying to find these negativities you should look within yourself to see why. It is in your consciousness these negativities you percieve in him arise. What do you want?
I thank Maharaji for bringing my awareness to the simplicity of my life and my being

"peace you are looking for is inside you" except only i can give you, noone else, dont even trust yourself. i am the grand master, the self procaimed master of the universe and so come and get it and watch me take your soul before you get this "free" gift. hes a snake oil salesman, if rawat took money, he'd have to give you something. here no money, so just a load of hot air and all the excuses to treat his followers as dirt. anon

have to agree with the above comment, the most horrid avatar of our time. treated his followers like crap, protected rapist mahatmas in the cult, raped women, and still posed as a family man. yuck, the whole organisation starting from the top is just shit

"except only i can give you, noone else, dont even trust yourself.

Maharaji is the one who says trust yourself; take responsibility for your life. He says if you've looked and couldn't find what you're looking for, come and he'll teach the techniques of meditation. You don't like it, don't continue. Doesn't sound like a cult to me. Where are the forced life styles, the push to live in any way other than what your life is. Where is the mind control?

He spends the majority of his days flying (in a plane, I agree that could be smaller) speaking to people. Why doesn't he sit on his laurels? what are you doing to bring more peace to the world? It's so easy to find fault. I agree w/ the other poster. Look inside to see what is keeping you so enamored of distrust. What is it that you need from bringing someone else down?

Oh I know I hear laughter in the background but that's OK bc I can go meditate.

Another deluded pr follower no doubt. prem rawat has to say those things to cover his back, thats how cults work. duh!

At 1/16/2009 11:20 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

So Prem Rawat advises people to take responsiblity for their own lives does he? Is that what his followers spout here? Why dont cult followers just go to their cult websites and gush about their gurus and have devotional orgies or whatever, instead of coming to these sites where critical information and free speech is allowed. Prem Rawat has never taken responsibilty for his errors, ever, he blames everyone else, all his life! So such advice coming from him, is hardly to be taken seriously!

Nothing is keeping us so disenamoured of Prem Rawat and all the other fake gurus. But you should question what makes someone so brainwashed and blinded that they are willing to support abusive gurus like Rawat. Any slight criticism brings forth predictable viciousness from prems followers and Prem himself. Such a nice bunch. Deluded in the worst possible way!

i agree in part with what you are saying except this part:

"if rawat took money, he'd have to give you something. here no money, so just a load of hot air"

if rawat took money? he does take your money, people have to travel around the world to see him with their own money.

and at the end of it realise that fatfrog has taken everything and given them just a load of hot air.

yes, fatfrog is the biggest, ugliest, liar on planet earth today.

that he is a liar, is the only truth to him, funnily enough.

Ever heard the story of the fox and the grapes?
The fox tries to reach the grapes, but they are too high.....
So he tells everyone the grapes are sour....
I have been a student for over 30years, and Maharaji has brought nothing but Love, understanding, appreciation, and joy into my Life.
He is an amazing teacher and guide, and shows the way to true fulfillment within the heart..

Yep. Even really bad gurus can work great for good devotees.

Love the foxes/grapes psych-ops story, too.

It's obvious some people havn't got a clue......
Here r some favorite sayings:
"you can't judge a book by looking at the cover.."
"the proof of the pudding's in the eating"
"you can take a horse to water but you can't make him drink".
"what u r looking for is within u"
have u found it?

Bottom line, Kim: gurus with 60-million dollar jets who claim they are God are assholes, no matter how many folks believe they've been helped by them. The size of the anti-satsang says a lot. There's plenty of big-time gurus, but few have as big an anti- group as Rawat.

Ok Mr cynical guru buster....
60 million, 60 shmillion, it doesn't matter......
The gift of Knowledge is priceless...
To know, feel and experience the power behind this breath is the greatest feeling, and allows one to really understand what it means to be alive.
Our greatest fear is that a Master is feathering his own nest, I understand, and yet this one relentlessly travels the world dedicating his time and energy to bringing his message to as many people as possible in his lifetime......
His commitment is impeccable, and the gift of Knowledge
the greatest humanitarian effort to relieving suffering the world has ever known.
I invite u to go to mspeaks.com and try to listen with an open heart...........

60 million, 60 shmillion, it doesn't matter

It does to people who are starving in the world.

The gift of Knowledge is priceless...

Rawat has nothing special in that department. There are many teachers much more qualified that aren't economic rapists.

this one relentlessly travels the world dedicating his time and energy to bringing his message to as many people as possible in his lifetime

Burning thousands of pounds of expensive, carbon-decadent jet fuel, incurring airport and maintenance expenses on that 60-million dollar jet. No wonder he's bringing his message to (and charging) as many people as possible. The dude has a burn rate that may even be higher than Michael Jackson's.

The world has a million other gurus who aren't raping and pillaging. It doesn't need Rawat.

Once again you're looking in the wrong direction..
How else could he bring this to as many people in such a short time.... Do u expect him to ride a donkey?
Btw there is no charge, I repeat no charge........

Kim, you are doing much more damage to your cause than you know. You would be serving Rawat much more by just keeping quiet.

If a 3,000 seat hall fills to capacity, then even at the base $50 reservation fee (let alone $100 and $150 preferred seating fees!), that's a minimum gross of $150,000 for the 1-2 hour event. After deducting the related tour event expenses/bills, the net profit is $125,000!

ever heard of saint kabir, KIM?
i think i can beat that fox with sour grape story that came from your "master"

saint kabir says: a tree is useless
as the fig tree, though it may look big and bear fruit if it
remains out of the reach of the animals who are hungry and it cant provide shade for the weary.

so you see even saints like sant kabir speak sourly of such trees.
so who can blame the fox eh?

another quote i like "the greatest humanitarian effort to relieving suffering the world has ever known."

ha ha ha ha, when actually did this humanitarian come out of rawat?
oh yes, after 40 odd years of not beliving in charity!
and that too, its your money he's recycling back to you, my dear.

another quote i like: "
yet this one relentlessly travels the world dedicating his time and energy to bringing his message to as many people as possible in his lifetime......

no this prat spins round and round the globe because in his own words "he loves flying, love it".
thats why!

If some one is dirt, candle without oil, how it burn.
if someone has oil of love present in the heart, definately feel love, contentment, fulfillment, peace, that everybody desires.
Maharaji is complete LOVE, perfect master of all time.

Sorry Mr., Grapes are too high, if you even try to touch, fall into dirt, Because dirt meets dirt and try to find fulfillment in dirt.

Yes Anonymush, Prem Rawat is PURE LOVE esp to his chosen Premie Women. He sure showed them some PURE (But Filthy)LOVE.

I came across Prem Rawat while doing a Google search, watched a few of his videos... I immediately began to suspect he was a fraud... just the way he spoke... keeps repeating the same "peace is within" mantra over and over endlessly, without actually saying anything useful. The more I listened, the more obvious it became that he was full of crap. I then did a few other searches "Rawat Cult" for example, and realized I wasn't the only one to feel this way.

So, obviously, he is in it for the money but... he is still better than Christian, Muslim, or Jewish religions which are followed by billions of people around the globe. These are the real cults, the original cults from which he learned how to con people out of their money by telling them what they want to hear.

Stupid people are stupid. Some things will never change.
