Fundies Freak Out Over TM™ And Yoga

File under: The Siddhi of PR and Wackadoo Gurus

The fundies of Smith Center, Kansas are still whining to whoever will listen about the TM™ hordes who are about to invade their town. Their main beef is with the Madharishi's claim that TM™ is a science, not a religion. Not to worry... only TM™ folks actually believe such nonsense, anyway.

Seeing giant spiders in closets is a fundie tradition, and now the new bugaboo is yoga:
Dr. Larimore argued that because yoga has spiritual roots outside Christianity, the practice can be dangerous. He argued that “involvement with Eastern spiritual practices is known to cause psychological and emotional problems in some people.”
And becoming a rabidly fundamentalist Christian is a virtual guarantee of it.

Get used to it, folks. With so many expecting Jesus Christ to pop in at any second, there's no seeming end to the post-millenium millenialism. Anything not seen as sanctioned by that collection of fairy tales known as the Bible is gonna be bad, bad, bad for you. We're afraid it's going to be all downhill from here as ecumenicalism could one day die a horrible death at the end of a fundie's AR-15.

Did you take out the word morons? My version from your rss has "With so many morons expecting Jesus Christ to pop in at any second" while your site now has "With so many expecting Jesus Christ to pop in at any second".

Why did you change it?

After I arrive home from work and "relax," I find I have a little less harshness in me. I thought about the usefulness of calling potentially violent folks "morons" and decided not to. It's pretty much implied anyway.

It sure seems like your posts have moved from fun and informative to bitter and prodding. The removal of the word morons may have been done after being more relaxed, but you still came out with 'potentially violent.' I really think you do great things here, and in some ways inspire people emotionally by reporting on the latest antics of all types of quasi-religious leaders. But it appears that it may be at the cost of some of your own happiness.

Follow the link. Fundamentalist Christian youth are being taught that it is ok to kill non-Christians and Christians alike if they don't fall down in front of their idea of God.

But it appears that it may be at the cost of some of your own happiness.

There are a few drops of bitterness in me. It's part of the fuel that fires this blog. I'm ok with it. It was installed by my life and is a reaction to the abject ignorance which pervades Hindu-based spiritual culture. Its great wisdom comes at the horrible price of its superstitions. I'm trying to pull them apart and be funny as possible while doing it.
